How do fandoms set themselves apart from viewers?
- Bronies (older men who watch my little pony who have far-right political views) although the demographic is for young girls. Create fan art etc
- Bondionds (James Bond enthusiasts) would probably go to conventions where they can dress up
- Furrys (older people who watch cartoons) and therefore dress up as an animal that reflects how they see themselves

- Presenting a romance between Spock and Kirk
- The producer never intended their audience to respond with this reaction
- Its a 'Ship', an idea that fan create a relationship between two characters that aren't together originally

- Fandom refers to a particularly organised and motivated audience of a certain media producer franchise
- Unlike the generic audience or the classic spectator, fans are active participants in the construction and circulation of textual meanings
- Fans appropriate texts and read them in ways that are not fully intended by the media producers ('textual poaching')
