Radio Unit (Audience, Reception Theory)

Radio Unit (last lesson)

Audience

How do audiences use LNWH to meet their needs?

Slow TV - why do we watch it? (a very long show where nothing happens)
  • to put into the background
  • help you sleep
  • taking drugs
  • put music behind it

Hashtags

LNWH

after listening to ‘are you tree curious’ I have just been for a hangover clearing run in the woods and hugged a tree! I can confirm it is a fine cure for my post-wine idiot-fear!
  • Trolls - people who take the piss
  • Hosts retweeting, sharing information
  • Expression of love for one of the hosts
  • Examples of people who are commenting on the show and relating it their life
Reception Theory - Hall

Preferred - agree with it, enjoying the feminist overtones and middle-class mode of address
Negotiated - enjoy the women and what it stands for but disagree with the specific topics.
Opposition - finding it sex and nondiverse, classist and exclusion
Aberrant (reading that is totally wrong) - stalking the host because they think it is directly affecting you

Dominant ideology - enjoyable, to agree with what they're saying (gently feminist, middle class, middle-aged)

Participatory Culture

My interests:
  • Charlie Kauffman (director)
  • Book to film adaptations
